Guide to Living a Full Life

October 31, 2007

It’s funny what you can get used to, especially over time. Even under the most agonizing and ridiculously insane circumstances, we will decide to continue dealing with less than undesirable situations. This problem has many faces: A dead-end job, or unsatisfying career, an abusive boss or co-worker, an unfulfilling significant other relationship, an unworthy friend, a physically unhealthy lifestyle, an unlivable income. Unfortunately these situations are quite common.

Guide to Living a Full Life

You have been given a wonderful gift. It doesn’t matter where you believe it came from: God, Allah, the stars, at random, or any other entity you can name. The point is that you have it. Life is yours, and you exist for as long as you can draw breath. Just by sitting there reading this, you are here. The literal meaning of the word exist, is “to be.” That’s it, to be. You don’t have to do anything to be except what is necessary to survive: eat, drink, and breathe. It takes no great effort to exist. You don’t even have to think about it because it’s automatically done every hour, every minute and every second of your life. If existing is automatically done, then there must be something else more essential to your existence. Human beings are not on this planet to just simply be here. We are to be active participants and thoroughly involved. But most of all, life must be fulfilling.

Steps to Living a More Fulfilled Life:

1. Understand that life is a choice.Successful women believe they shape their own destinies. Life isn’t something that simply happens to them. They understand that if they do not make decisions for themselves then someone else eventually will. Their choices translate into actual power for them.

2. Being in the best possible physical condition is the cornerstone of success and personal achievement.

It takes a tremendous amount of energy to reach goals, and to change limiting behaviors. It requires a sharp and focused mind, which can provide the framework for the ability to deal adequately with the necessary stressors of life. Exercising and eating a nutritious diet is only the very beginning of realizing goal accomplishment, but it is absolutely necessary. Poor health can sabotage any potential plan for success. Although living a healthy lifestyle has the benefit of a more shapely physique, it should not be the ultimate goal, however. Looking good is a side event when it comes to being in great physical health.

3. Because relationships are so tantamount to your development and personal growth, increasing awareness of the effects that certain connections may have upon your life is significant.

All relationships are not beneficial, and some can be horribly toxic. Learning to assess and evaluate your connections is another great step in goal accomplishment. Relationships can be stressful, but necessary which can create inner conflict. This inner conflict can become a huge distraction and a barrier to future successes. It is essential to develop the ability to change the dynamics of any given connection or relationship that you may find yourself involved in.

4. Understand that your material wealth does not equal success.Wealth is an elusive idea. It has an uncanny ability and tendency to make people believe that if they can get more and more of it, they will be happy, and secure. The reality is that personal security cannot be found in material wealth and money. Certainly, there is a sense of security when you know that your necessities will be met because you have planned and prepared for them. Now there is a sense of security therein, but that is called financial security and should not be confused with personal or individual security. There is a mountain of difference as many confuse the two. Whenever you seek security on a personal level through material wealth, a problem develops and it will hold you back from future personal growth. The reason being is this: self-worth, meaning personal self-worth within, is never to be determined by what you own or what you have the ability to buy.

5. Do self-discovery work. Self Discovery involves an intense study of oneself as a whole, interacting human being. It involves taking a serious look at yourself and becoming completely aware of who you really are, learning what motivates you and what is truly important. Many women go through life, unsure of who they are or what they really desire to make happen in their lives. Emotions and circumstances rule. As a result, they end up doing a lot of things that they truly do not want to do, or that do not fulfill them in any way.

6. Eliminate poor habits by becoming a problem-solving expert. Every living thing on the planet Earth has a pattern of living and coping, including human beings. This pattern is called a strategy. Strategies are developed by learning and are constantly recalled using memory traces that depend upon the individual perception of reward and punishment. At the core of every strategy lays a problem or conflict needing to be resolved, which acts as a trigger. The trigger primarily initiates patterns or habits. All strategies are not helpful, however, and many defeat their intended purposes. If success is the principle goal, ineffective patterns of coping must be eliminated and replaced with those that work to bring about accomplishment. This is where learning to solve problems becomes most essential.

Nobody knows what really happens when we cease to exist on this planet. Some believe we return as new, different people or even something else, like an animal. Some believe that we reincarnate as spirit. While there are many different beliefs about what happens to us after physical life has ended, no one really knows for certain. Until someone actually dies for a time and comes back to tell us about it, we will not know. Of course, there have been those who have been revived from say, a failed heart for example, and have told about their near-death experiences. Regardless of what you believe about the subject of the afterlife, you are here now at this time. Now that is something that you do know with 100% certainty. You are here NOW.
