Guide to Zen Living: 10 Quick Ways to Zen Living Lifestyle

January 19, 2008

If you are interesting zen life, don’t forget read this 10 tips.

1. one thing at a time

Multitasking is impossible. Watch yourself when you attempt it. What you are actually doing is turning your attention from one thing to another, to another, rapidly. And, because changing your focus takes energy, nothing gets your full attention.

Experiment: watch your favourite tv show and have a conversation at the same time.

Zen living: Do one thing at a time. Full focus, to a pre-determined point of completion. Big projects require that you break them into bite-sized pieces, and finish a segment. Then shift attention. For most things, ‘chop wood, carry water.’ Do the task at hand with full attention.

2. speak for yourself

The only authentic pronoun is ‘I.’ All I can reliably talk about is what I am thinking, feeling, and doing.

Example: think about something you might consider a ‘we’ thing. “We’re going to play ball.” Well, maybe a bunch of people are each, individually, playing ball, but there is no ‘we,’ period. Nor can you say anything reliably about another person. “I know what you are thinking,” is impossible. I only, at best, am aware that I think I know what you are thinking.

Zen living: Speak only for yourself, by using “I think…”, “I imagine…”, “The story I’m telling myself…”, etc. Own your experience, and share it, as it’s all you can ever know.

Holiday Travel Guides: Bad Eating Habits a Recipe for Stomach Trouble

January 18, 2008

Travel and poor eating habits can cause stomach problems during the holidays, an expert says.

“Traveling can be very stressful, and it can be particularly hard on your gut. People tend to experience abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea or a combination of any of those problems during travel,” Dr. Sandra Hoogerwerf, an assistant professor in the department of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, said in a prepared statement.

Travel can disrupt the internal body clock that regulates hunger and bowel movements.

“The gut’s rhythm gets thrown off when you travel, especially across time zones. So, suddenly, you’re awake when you should be sleeping, and you’re eating when you’re supposed to be sleeping. Essentially, your gut is jet-lagged, and that can cause a lot of gastrointestinal problems,” Hoogerwerf said.

Try to give your gut time to catch up with the new schedule and re-establish its rhythm, she suggested.

“If you respect your biological rhythms, you’re going to feel less irritated, less tired, less fatigued, and your gut is going to feel a lot better,” she said.

Poor eating habits can aggravate travel-related stomach problems, Hoogerwerf warned.

Living Healthy: Hair Care Ideas For You

Healthy Hair Ideas For You

The structure of hair is like that of the scales on the skin of a fish - that is overlapping scales around a central core called the cortical. Smoother overlapping and undamaged structure of this makes the hair look shiny and smooth and leads to easy combing while a tangled or roughed-up structure makes the hair look rough and dull and makes it difficult to comb as it causes interlocking of hair and make it “knotty”.

The type of hair, its color, the age for its graying and its retention on the head is normally inherited and depends upon the genetic makeup of the person. However there are few external factors which contribute to the health of hair, its behavior and its looks.
